Desynchronization of coupled electrochemical oscillators with pulse stimulations.

چکیده
Various stimulation desynchronization techniques are explored in a laboratory experiment on electrochemical oscillators, a system that exhibits transient dynamics, heterogeneities, and inherent noise. Stimulation with a short, single pulse applied at a vulnerable phase can effectively desynchronize a cluster. A double pulse method, that can be applied at any phase, can be improved either by adding an extra weak pulse between the original two pulses or by adding noise to the first pulse.

Analysis and Design of Phase Desynchronization in Pulse-coupled Oscillators
By spreading phases on the unit circle, desynchronization algorithm is a powerful tool to achieve round-robin scheduling, which is crucial in applications as diverse as media access control of communication networks, realization of analogto-digital converters, and scheduling of traffic flows in intersections. Driven by the increased application of pulse-coupled oscillators in achieving synchron...
متن کاملDesynchronization of pulse-coupled oscillators with delayed excitatory coupling
Collective behavior of pulse-coupled oscillators has been investigated widely. As an example of pulse-coupled networks, fireflies display many kinds of flashing patterns. Mirollo and Strogatz (1990) proposed a pulse-coupled oscillator model to explain the synchronization of South East Asian fireflies (Pteroptyx malaccae). However, transmission delays were not considered in their model. In fact,...
متن کاملPartial Reset in Pulse-Coupled Oscillators
Pulse-coupled threshold units serve as paradigmatic models for a wide range of complex systems. When the state variable of a unit crosses a threshold, the unit sends a pulse that is received by other units, thereby mediating the interactions. At the same time, the state variable of the sending unit is reset. Here we present and analyze a class of pulse-coupled oscillators where the reset may be...
متن کاملStimulus-locked responses of two phase oscillators coupled with delayed feedback.
For a system of two phase oscillators coupled with delayed self-feedback we study the impact of pulsatile stimulation administered to both oscillators. This system models the dynamics of two coupled phase-locked loops (PLLs) with a finite internal delay within each loop. The delayed self-feedback leads to a rich variety of dynamical regimes, ranging from phase-locked and periodically modulated ...
متن کاملUnstable attractors induce perpetual synchronization and desynchronization.
Common experience suggests that attracting invariant sets in nonlinear dynamical systems are generally stable. Contrary to this intuition, we present a dynamical system, a network of pulse-coupled oscillators, in which unstable attractors arise naturally. From random initial conditions, groups of synchronized oscillators (clusters) are formed that send pulses alternately, resulting in a periodi...
